Whitten Park, MS

Locked up the house tight.  Jessie will check on it for us while we are on our extended trip.  I really hated leaving the tomato garden I'd prepared.  Tomatoes were everywhere and I was just starting to see the fruits of my labor.  Regardless, the road was calling and the summer is our only time to travel so we're off.

First day had us driving from home to Fulton, MS where we are staying at Whitten Park.  Info on the park is below.  It's a beautifully scenic park on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway.  This isn't a camping stop for us, but just an overnighter.  Still a very nice little campground.  We hit some traffic on 40 between Little Rock and Memphis, but not too bad.  Going the other direction, fo-geta-bout-it.  Bad.  After arriving, we set up and headed into town.  I was feeling Mexican so we hit a local place called Los Compadres.  Two interesting dishes had there.  One was a spicy (ish) dish called Molcajeta, a chicken, beef, and shrimp combo is a savory beef and cheese sauce accompanied with tortillas and rice.  I really enjoyed it, but Gina thought it a tad spicy.  The other unusual dish was a Banana Chimichunga.  It almost tasted like a banana split, but without the ice cream.  After eating, we picked up a couple staples from Walmart and headed back to the campground where we watched a movie called "The Guilt Trip" and headed to bed.  What a great start to our trip!  See the pics below.
