C3 Garden 2011

Finished putting in the garden for this year.  I kept with using the black plastic and t-posts like the past few years.  This year, I planted tomato, yellow squash, bell pepper, and cucumber.  A couple changes.  The pole beans I planted last year were a pain in the backside.  Too much plant for the beans which translated into a lot of digging into the massive vines to find few beans.  If I do beans again, it'll be bush, but this year, I wanted an even smaller footprint garden.  Last year the cantaloupe and bean vines took over and it kind of worried me with snakes--almost stepped on one.  I have to say, the cantaloupe was awesomely sweet and plentiful.  For this year too, I planted only one tomato variety--the Arkansas Traveler.  It's an Arkansas heirloom variety.  I noticed it produced uniform tomatoes, meaty, juicy, didn't crack, a lot per plant, and were extremely tasty.  By far the best of the 4 varieties I tried last year.  Gina wanted some bell peppers again.  It's been a couple years since we had them.  We both love the stuffed bells.  Planted 3 colors for salad variety.  Tomato and yellow squash go in every year.  They're just too good for us.
