Herk...What's In A Name?

Herk is our truck.  Gina named him and although you would think it's based on the mythical demigod Hercules, you'd be right...well, sort of.  It's actually named after the C-130, the true workhorse of military airlift for decades now.  Our Squadron deploys the C-130 and it's personnel constantly.  I'm proud to have worked on these aircraft for most of my Air Force/DoD career.  So, aptly, our truck gets the name in honor of our lives around the C-130.  Here is what a C-130 looks like.

Herk has a new look among many other things which I'll get into later.  But, for now, Herk has been lowered back to stock height to better accommodate towing Voyager.  It amounted to 6 inches lower.  This will also help Gina and I get our older bones in and out which is a plus.

If you look at the comparison pics below, you will be able to tell that Herk has received heavy duty wheels and tires to add a padded safety margin to 5th wheel towing's weakest link.  Each wheel added almost 2000lbs of strength.  They are special order commercial, load range H tires on custom manufactured wheels.  Each can manage 5000lbs at 120 psi vs. the 3000lb stock arrangement.
